Agile is a mindset for delivering work in short, iterative cycles, guided by the values and principles of the Agile Manifesto (2001). Rather than planning a project in full up front, agile teams work in small increments, gather feedback early and often, and adapt as they learn. Agile is not a single method but an umbrella for approaches such as Scrum and Kanban.
In the current PMBOK Guide (8th edition) agile sits within the broader idea of an adaptive development approach, chosen when requirements are uncertain and likely to change. It contrasts with a predictive (plan-driven) approach and is often combined with it in a hybrid approach.
