What Is Cadence?
Cadence is a rhythm of activities conducted throughout a project. It is the regular, predictable heartbeat at which events recur — for example a two-week iteration, a daily coordination meeting or a monthly review.
In Practice
A steady cadence makes projects predictable and reduces coordination overhead: people know when planning, reviews and releases happen. Different activities can run on different cadences — short cadences for team-level feedback, longer ones for stakeholder reviews or releases. Cadence and timeboxing together create the reliable rhythm of adaptive work.
PMBOK 8 Context
Cadence appears in the adaptive vocabulary of the PMBOK Guide, 8th Edition, supporting the Delivery and Planning performance domains. It underpins iterations and regular flow.
FAQ
