Develop Project Scope Statement (preliminary)

The phrase develop project scope statement refers to the activity that occurs during the early period if planning in which the project team or project leader determine what should be the project’s project scope statement, although in most cases this project scope statement determination is merely preliminary. The develop project scope statement period also is the period in which, during the development of this project scope statement, an explicit and highly detailed project scope statement narrative is recorded. Now, during this period of project scope statement development, it is typical for the entire project management team to work together to brainstorm what this project scope statement will be, however in some cases the project team leader may develop the statement himself with or without the project management team’s approval. In some cases, the buyer or financially responsible party may have input unto the project scope statement either in a contributory or a review aspect.

This term is defined in the 3rd edition of the PMBOK but not in the 4th.
